What we are looking for:
The purpose of BRIGHT IDEAS is to showcase successful programs that have made it easier for children to eat healthy food and/or be physically active at school by addressing policy and environmental change. Through this section in our web site, we hope to:

Encourage schools and school districts to increase access to healthy foods and physical activity by changing the school environment.

Link people and organizations with others who are successfully implementing strategies to increase student access to healthy foods and physical activity by changing the school environment.

Highlight new and successful programs increasing student access to healthy foods and physical activity by changing the school environment.

If you have a healthy eating or physical activity strategy that addresses policy and environmental changes you would like to be considered as a BRIGHT IDEA, please complete the information below. This information should be brief and comprehensive since we would like to share your success with others. Important Notice to Submitters.

Please include the following information (please note character limits below):


  1. Who: Contact Information and Name of Program

  2. Where did the environmental change or policy activity take place (school, community, club)?

  3. What academic year did the activity occur?

  4. What did you want to accomplish? (include background) (1500 characters)

  5. Who took action? (1000 characters)

  6. Describe the steps you took to accomplish the environmental change or policy. (2000 characters)

  7. What was the budget for this activity? What was the source of funding? (1000 characters)

  8. What are the demographics of the target population?

    School or community population size (250 characters)
    Percent of students who receive free or reduced price meals (250 characters)
    Student or community ethnicity (250 characters)
    Other pertinent demographics (optional) (250 characters)

  9. What were the results of your efforts? (1000 characters)
